A Big Change to Google Business Profiles

October 6, 2026 · ShopsPlatform Team

In a recent SEO Roundtable article, business owners have four days to accept or reject a 'user-suggested edit'. What's even more interesting, Google doesn't even guarantee you'll get an update about any such edit.

If you're the type of business that takes orders over the phone, this is an opportunity for business fraud. As we covered in a previous blog post, Google is already cracking down on fake Google Business profiles scamming customers with fake business profiles, stealing business from existing, reputable businessses. This updated policy by Google doesn't make anything easier - arguably, they're making it worse.

To combat this, we've added a feature to our vertical platforms to monitor your Google Business profile on a semi-frequent basis to conduct an integrity check between what business information we have regarding your business location and your Google Business profile, sending alerts if we see anything changed that doesn't reflect our records. This is strictly a feature for paid members; free accounts won't receive this benefit.

If this is something you'd be interested in for your own business, feel free to sign up for a profile with the appropriate vertical or, if you're looking for something a bit more bespoke, contact us and let us know how we can help you out.
